Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) System Components
An RFID system will most likely need to contain the following components:
RFID tags: this is where the data to be captured is stored
Antenna: the antenna are needed to "reach out" to the antenna in the tags; dock doors may require several antenna per door to ensure good readability of all the tags passing through
Reader: the reader interprets the data in the RFID tag, much the same way a decoder works in a barcode scanner
Middleware: some type of software that is capable of capturing all the interpreted RFID tag data and passing this information to a business software application, such as a warehouse, distribution, or inventory system
