Vendor Compliance & Supply Chain Management

From the viewpoint of a manufacturing or distribution company, Supply Chain Management can be thought of as the "pull" of raw materials or products into a company from suppliers, and Vendor Compliance as the "push" of manufactured finished goods or products to customers who then sell to consumers (like you and me).

From the customer's perspective, the vendor compliance rules imposed on their suppliers are really just a part of the company's overall supply chain management practices, and are concerned with the "pull" of finished goods via a single set of rules, procedures, and technology into the company for sale ("push") to consumers via brick-and-mortar or Internet-based retail outlets.

Overall, the goal of supply chain management is to bring the most efficiencies to the table in the movement of goods.  Having all vendors operate in the same manner, utilizing standards such as barcode labels and EDI, goes very far in keeping costs down.

The customer, supplier, and consumer all benefit from supply chain management & vendor compliance.  The costs saved by the customer can translate to lower retail prices, ensuring suppliers' products are on the shelf,  and more money spent opening retail locations.  This increases the sales by the consumer and thus purchases by the customer of the supplier's goods.  This is a win-win-win situation for all parties involved!

Vendor compliance and supply chain management are certainly two related concepts.
